Why Are Some Leads Skipping Sequence Steps in My Campaign?

Last updated: April 14, 2026

If you notice that a lead is active (or even closed) in your campaign, but some steps in the sequence were not executed, this can be expected behavior, not a bug. AiSDR may skip individual sequence steps when the required channel, data, or daily action limit is not available.

What “skipped step” actually means

A skipped step means the lead stays in the campaign, but specific steps in the sequence were skipped.

The rest of the sequence may still continue.

You can see skipped steps in the: Campaign follow-up sequence --> Sequence timeline.

🔍 The three most common reasons

LinkedIn steps were skipped because LinkedIn was not connected/selected

If LinkedIn was not connected/selected when the campaign was created, the system has no way to perform LinkedIn outreach. In that case, LinkedIn steps in the sequence will be skipped.

Examples of skipped LinkedIn steps:

  • connection request

  • LinkedIn message

  • post likes

The lead can still continue through email steps if email is available.

Email steps were skipped because the lead has no email

This is the opposite scenario. If the lead does not have an email address, AiSDR can still execute LinkedIn steps, but email steps will be skipped.

The lead stays active, and the system continues with the steps that can still be completed.

LinkedIn daily limits were reached (auto-skip)

LinkedIn actions are limited for safety reasons. For example, connection requests, messages, and post-like steps can only be completed up to a certain daily limit (20 actions per day).

If auto-skip is enabled in the sequence (this is the default setting), the system may skip that step once the daily limit is reached instead of waiting for the next available day.

💡 Good to know: If you want to make sure leads do not skip these LinkedIn steps, disable auto-skip in the sequence settings.

Final note

Skipped sequence steps are not the same as skipped leads. In this case, the lead is still active and the campaign can continue - only one specific action was skipped because it could not be completed under the current conditions.
