How to Edit a Campaign: What's Safe, What Has Consequences

Last updated: May 12, 2026

Even after a campaign is created and launched, AiSDR gives you significant control over its setup. How much you can change depends on one key factor: whether your campaign is already live.

📜 Two Editing Scenarios

1. Campaign has NOT been launched yet

You have full control.

You can:

  • change anything

  • restructure everything

  • experiment freely

👉 Think of this stage as your “safe editing zone”.

2. Campaign is already launched

You still have significant control, but with some important limitations.

Some changes:

  • may not be available

  • may affect active leads

  • may impact campaign performance

👉 This is where being intentional really matters.

📝 How to Edit a Campaign

To access campaign settings:

  1. Open your campaign

  2. Click Edit

From there, you can modify all configurable parts of the campaign.

âš™ The following elements can be safely edited in both scenarios:

Campaign goal

The campaign goal can be updated at any time. If you initially set your goal to “get positive responses” but later decide that “book a meeting” is more aligned with your strategy, you can switch this without any issues.

Lead search query

You can also update your lead search query whenever needed. Just keep in mind that these changes will only apply to new leads — existing leads in the campaign won’t be affected.

Lead search database (not recommended)

You can switch the lead search database, but this is something to approach carefully. When you change the database, your original search criteria will not carry over, so you may need to rebuild your filters from scratch.

We recommend creating a new campaign if you decide to try a different database for lead search rather than changing it in the existing campaign.

Continuous lead search and number of leads per search

You can enable or disable it at any time and adjust how many leads are added automatically. This is particularly useful if you’re not fully confident in your targeting yet. A good approach is to start with a smaller number of leads, validate the quality, and then scale up once you’re confident the campaign is bringing in the right audience.

Sending schedule

Your sending schedule can be adjusted at any time, even after the campaign is live, but it’s important to ensure the timezone is set correctly. If the timezone doesn’t match your target audience, messages may be sent at inconvenient hours (e.g., early morning or late evening), which can negatively impact open and reply rates.

CRM actions

If your workflow or internal processes change, you can update how leads are handled without disrupting the campaign.

Suppression lists

Suppression lists are equally flexible: you can add new ones or remove existing ones as your targeting evolves.

Persona and AI model settings

Persona and AI model settings can be edited at any point during the campaign, allowing you to adjust your messaging angle whenever needed. If you decide to test a different approach or refine your positioning, you can do so without any issues. Changes will apply to new interactions moving forward, which can be helpful when optimizing messaging based on early results or new insights.

🏗 Sequence Builder (Important)

Now, when it comes to the sequence builder, things get a bit more nuanced.

If the campaign is NOT launched

👉 You have full control:

  • edit steps

  • add/remove steps

  • change timing

  • restructure entire sequence

If the campaign IS launched

👉 You can still edit steps, but some limitations kick in the moment a step has been sent to at least one lead.

Steps that haven't been sent yet → full editing flexibility, same as above.

Steps that have already been executed → you can still change:

  • Delay/timing before the step (days or hours)

  • Personalization toggle (on/off)

  • Action type (e.g., switch from plain email to email with meme, or LinkedIn connection request to InMail)

  • LinkedIn connection note toggle (“send with note” on/off)

  • LinkedIn fallback settings (action type, delay, number of posts to like

  • “Skip if action limit reached” toggle (for LinkedIn actions)

  • “Skip if already connected” toggle (for LinkedIn connection steps)

  • Number of posts to like (for LinkedIn Like steps)

What you can't change on an already-sent step:

  • Step type (e.g. you can't switch Email → LinkedIn)

  • Step order (drag, move up/down are disabled)

  • Delete the step

If the step has already been sent to some leads - changes apply to future sends only - leads who already received it won't be affected

🎛 Sequence Settings (Always Editable)

Even in active campaigns, these sequence settings can be adjusted:

🧍‍♀ 🧍‍♂ Campaign Team (Critical Section)

One of the most important areas to be careful with when editing a live campaign is the campaign team section. Before launch, you can freely add or remove teammates, connect or disconnect mailboxes, and manage LinkedIn accounts without any consequences.

After launch, however, changes here can have a direct impact on your leads. If you remove a sender whose mailbox has already been used to contact leads, all those leads will be automatically closed. This is sometimes intentional, but often unexpected — so it’s worth double-checking before making this change.

At the same time, adding new senders (mailboxes) is safe and can be done without negatively affecting existing leads. This is often used to scale outreach while keeping current conversations intact.

LinkedIn accounts should also be handled with care. If you disconnect LinkedIn from a campaign that includes LinkedIn steps, those steps will simply not be executed, which can break your sequence logic and reduce overall campaign effectiveness.

On the other hand, if your sequence does not include any LinkedIn steps, adding or connecting a LinkedIn account will not change the sequence logic, and no LinkedIn actions will be executed.

Overall, editing campaigns in AiSDR is flexible, but it’s important to balance flexibility with stability. As a general rule, if a change affects the structure of the sequence, the sender setup, or the overall campaign logic, it’s usually safer to duplicate the campaign and apply changes there.

This approach helps you avoid unintended side effects and ensures your campaign continues running smoothly while you experiment with improvements.
