Difference Between Adding Emails vs. Domains to the Suppression List
The suppression list allows you to prevent specific contacts or entire organizations from being contacted through your campaigns. You can add entries to this list by email or by domain β and each option functions differently.
π§ Adding an Email Address
When you add a specific email (e.g., john.doe@company.com) to the suppression list:
The system will block outreach to that individual email address only.
If this lead is ever added to a campaign, they will be automatically marked as closed before any message is sent.
The rest of the leads from the same company will not be affected.
β Use this when you want to suppress a single person (e.g., someone who unsubscribed or requested no contact).
π’ Adding a Domain
When you add a domain (e.g., company.com) to the suppression list:
The system will automatically block outreach to all leads with email addresses from that domain.
Anyone from that company (e.g.,
alice@company.com,bob@company.com) will be closed automatically if added to a campaign.
β Use this when you want to suppress an entire company or organization.
β Important:
Make sure to format domains correctly:
β
company.com(correct)β
www.company.com(incorrect)
π§ When to Use Each Option
Use Case | Add Email | Add Domain |
A single person unsubscribed | β Yes | π« No |
You want to avoid an entire company | π« No | β Yes |
You're suppressing competitors | π« Not scalable | β Recommended |
Youβre honoring GDPR/opt-out requests | β Yes | β Yes (if company-wide opt-out) |
